Translate Web L10N localization files

🔗What are Web L10N files?

Web L10N files are language files using tailored .properties files. They are used for a project called webL10n used for the now defunkt FirefoxOS/Gaia internationalization.

The file formats are .properties files which is the default and preferred, and which WebTranslateIt supports, .intl and .lol files (which we don’t support)

The webL10n library hasn’t received any update since 2015, so the project seems to be abandonned and WebTranslateIt will stop supporting this localization file in the future, but we will keep this page up for posterity.

Here’s an example of Web L10N localization .properties file. The different plural lines are imported into 1 plural segment and comments are imported as instructions.

tale=A tale of two <strong>small</strong> brown furry {{creatures}}.
creatures=creatures

phrase={[ plural(n) ]}
phrase[zero]=No quick {{adj}} jumped over the lazy dog.
phrase[one]=The quick {{adj}} jumped over the lazy dog.
phrase[other]={{n}} quick {{adj}} jumped over the lazy dog.

brown={[ plural(n) ]}
brown[zero]=brown foxes
brown[one]=brown fox
brown[other]=brown foxes
